After a Suicide Event

What is Postvention and Bereavement?

Bereavement is the experience of losing someone important to us. It is characterized by grief, which is the process and the range of emotions we go through as we gradually adjust to loss. Losing someone to suicide can result in complex set of feelings and emotions. A person may struggle in trying to resolve their grief which may result in needing support. Going through these feelings alone can truly make an individual feel these emotions more.

Postvention is the response a community has in the aftermath of a suicide event (attempt or loss) to support those exposed to the suicide and to promote healing.
